Which format for which job?
| Format | Great for | Not for |
|---|---|---|
| WebP | All website images — 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality, supports transparency | Email attachments, very old software |
| JPG | Photos that must work everywhere: email, upload portals, marketplaces | Logos and graphics with transparency |
| PNG | Logos, icons, screenshots with text, transparency | Photos — often 3–5× larger than necessary |
Converting is only half the job
A format switch alone rarely fixes a slow page — the pixel size matters just as much. That is why this tool also lets you set a maximum width and a KB target in one go. And once converted, you can hand the result straight to the crop tool or compressor — no re-upload needed.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I use for my website?
WebP for almost all photos on websites — it is 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality and supports transparency. JPG when maximum compatibility matters (email, upload portals, marketplaces). PNG only for logos, icons and screenshots with text.
Why is saving photos as PNG a mistake?
PNG is lossless, which sounds good but makes photos needlessly huge: the same photo is often 3–5× larger as PNG than as JPG or WebP, with no visible difference on screen. Use PNG only when you need transparency or pixel-sharp text.
Can I convert iPhone HEIC photos?
Direct HEIC conversion is coming soon. Until then: on your iPhone, set Settings → Camera → Formats to "Most Compatible" and it will produce JPG files right away.
